Bellair Farm
Charlottesville, Virginia
Bellair Farm strives to be the one-stop shop for local farm products in Albemarle county: producing and sourcing food raised in a way that is safe for the land and its people. We're well-known for our vegetable CSA program, which is the largest in the area, serving over 650 households. We serve our members, as well as the general public, from our on-farm store (with accompanying Pick-Your-Own fields!) and many market locations each week.
In addition to our 26 acres of vegetables, we also raise pork, beef, chicken and eggs in ecologically-intelligent rotational systems that allow our animals to live out their natural instincts in a way that is sustainable for the land they occupy. For Stock, we raise Berkshire hogs in a mix of wooded lands, open pastures, and silvopastures. We are dedicated to integrating conservation with production agriculture, and this can be seen in our pig pastures on multiple fronts. Our short grazing periods are broken up by long rest periods, encouraging regeneration and a great mix of species. We're growing our own silvopastures, which have wildlife benefits on top of keeping our hogs cool in a warming world. Finally, we're mindful of whether we're grazing uplands or bottomlands based on the season, and that has benefits for both the animals and the land itself.
